WESTON, W.Va. – Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Adult Fitness Nurse Supervisor Kristi Gannon retired from Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital after 27 years at the Hospital.  She has directed the department for many years and oversaw national accreditation that both the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Departments received.

“I am most proud of our Cardiopulmonary Department staff and the way they care for our patients. We are certified in both cardiac and pulmonary rehab which says a lot for a rural hospital.  Our greatest asset is our community members. Our adult fitness program participants are the very best. I will miss my conversations with them,” she said.

Her career at SJMH began on the Med Surg Unit where she was a nurses’ aide before completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1996. During her time at Stonewall, she found her role models and included nursing heroes Mary Ellen Bragg, Terrie Clevenger, Betty Mertz and the “great” Avah Stalnaker.

Kristi has a great love of Stonewall and said, “The best part of working in a small hospital is that we’re able to care for our own through fundraisers, health fairs, and our own employee support fund.  I had hoped before retiring to see a new Hospital built and to see the current campus completely smoke-free.”

She has deep roots in the community having served as a 4-H leader for the past 25 years and currently serving on the Lewis County 4-H Foundation and Lewis County Heart Society boards. She is a vibrant member of the Horizon Church. Kristi was instrumental in promoting healthy living through the creation of hospital-sponsored walk runs.  Every month she traveled to the Weston Arbors to provide health screenings for residents there.

Kristi has a great love for SJMH having been born there in 1975.  All three of her children – Khori (husband, Clay Todd); Kaleb (fiancé, Abby Watson); and Kyle (girlfriend, Grace Materne) were born at Stonewall, too.  She is married to her high school sweetheart and “soul mate” Scott.

Her departure is bittersweet and she concluded, “I am so thankful for the friendships, memories and relationships made over the past 27 years. Stonewall Jackson Hospital will always be a special part of my life.”
