Kids’ resiliency day camps return to northcentral West Virginia counties this summer

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A summer day camp designed to help kids develop resiliency and healthy social-emotional skills returns to five northcentral West Virginia counties this summer. Camp Mindful Warriors, a program presented by the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute’s Healthy Minds – Clarksburg, works with children to promote effective stress management, emotional regulation, communication, and coping skills.

Camp Mindful Warriors is staffed by mental health specialists, youth outreach specialists, and counselors and uses evidence-based learning frameworks that include the Nurturing Parenting program, a family-centered trauma-informed initiative designed to build nurturing families; and MindUP, a social-emotional learning program for children.

Each of this summer’s Camp Mindful Warriors camps lasts five days, and dates and locations include:

  • June 12-16: Harrison County, Meadow Creek Community
  • June 19-23: Marion County, Windmill Park
  • June 26-30: Monongalia County, White Park
  • July 10-14: Lewis County, Lewis County Park
  • July 17-21: Taylor County, Fetterman Park
  • July 24-28: Harrison County, Shinnston Fire Department
  • August 6-12: Lewis County, Lewis County Park
  • August 14-18: Marion County, Windmill Park

Campers are split up into two age groups: kids ages three through 12 attend each day from 9 a.m. to noon, while teens ages 13 through 18 will attend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participation is free of charge.
