JV Lady Bucs hit nine three-pointers in loss to Parkersburg South

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs fired in nine three-pointers but still came up short in a 50-35 defeat to the hands of Parkersburg South at home Saturday afternoon.

The difference in the game came at the free-throw line, where the Patriots went 25 times, making 12, while the JV Lady Bucs went just four times, missing all four.

B-U had a 9-8 lead after one quarter with Regina Petrokovich nailing two three-pointers and Brooklyn Smith one for the JV Lady Buc scoring. The JV Lady Bucs lost the second quarter by a 20-7 margin with Smith putting in three points and Rosie Shackleford and Olivia Shipley two each. That left them down 28-16 at the break.

B-U came up short in the third quarter by a 13-11 count with Smith firing in eight points and Petrokovich three. Buckhannon-Upshur trailed 41-27 heading into the final eight minutes. The junior varsity Lady Bucs were edged in the last quarter by a 9-8 margin with Casadie Lahman scoring six points and NinaMae Coberly two points.

Smith led all scorers with 14 points while Petrokovich added nine. Regan Shockey paced Parkersburg South with 13 points.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 3-9 on the year. They will be back in action Monday at East Fairmont for a 5:45 p.m. start.
