JV Lady Bucs drop 42-24 decision to University

MORGANTOWN – A slow start cost the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs in a 42-24 road loss to the University Hawks Tuesday night in Morgantown,

B-U managed just one field goal and one free throw, both from Makenzie Egress, in the first quarter and trailed by a 12-3 score.

The Lady Bucs rebounded to win the second quarter by a 9-6 margin with Taylor Feather scoring four points, Egress three and Kylie Hull two.

That left the Lady Bucs down by an 18-12 score at the intermission.

B-U went cold again in the third quarter with just one field goal from Egress, losing the quarter by a 15-2 score.

They went into the final quarter down by a 33-14 count.

The Lady Bucs won the fourth quarter by a 10-9 margin, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Hawks.

Egress had four points while Martina Moto, Hull, and Gracie Gerwig each scored two in the final eight minutes.

Whitney Cox had a game-high 20 points to lead University.

Egress paced the B-U offense with 12 points.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 0-8.

They will play again on Saturday hosting Robert C. Byrd at 1:30 p.m.
