Just 11 new cases of COVID-19 identified in West Virginia Sunday

West Virginia confirmed just 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, the lowest one-day increase in more than a month. No new deaths were reported.

Overall, Sunday was a slow day for testing, with 657 test results included in the daily update, the lowest number in about three weeks.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 3, 2020, there have been 51,783 laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,195 positive, 50,588 negative and 50 deaths,” according to a press release.

The cumulative positive rate – which needs to remain below 3 percent per the governor’s reopening plan – held steady at 2.31 percent. The daily rate of positive cases reported Sunday was 1.7 percent.

About 43 percent of the West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 611 people have recovered and 50 have died, a mortality rate of about 7.6 percent.

New cases were reported Sunday in Berkeley, Fayette, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jefferson, Marshall, Putnam, Raleigh and Ritchie counties.
