West Virginia Premiere ‘Farmer of the Year’, an award-winning feature film starring Barry Corbin (‘Northern Exposure’) and Terry Kiser (‘Weekend at Bernies’). Drama with embedded comedy. 1h 43min. A deceptively simple look at aging, transitions, loss and family. Winner: New Filmmakers Forum at the St Louis Int’l Film Festival. film synopsis:
After selling the farm he’s worked for over 60 years, an aging farmer finds himself useless and adrift. Struggling to maintain his youth he road-trips across the country in a ’73 Winnebago with his equally directionless and unreasonably self-confident granddaughter. Heading west, they find themselves in seemingly impossible situations with only each other for support. As the journey progresses so does their relationship and they begin to understand and appreciate each other as individuals while discovering that being young and being old, aren’t all that different.

Stockert Youth and Community Center board votes to close playground to public during program hours

The Stockert Youth and Community Center will make its playground a closed campus when the center has kids outside, such as during after-school and Camp Buccaneer hours. It will remain open to the public at all other times. Officials say the change will improve safety.

WVWC Spirit Award renamed Alisa Suttle Spirit Award

West Virginia Wesleyan College has renamed its long-running Spirit Award the Alisa Suttle Spirit Award, honoring the 1992 founder who retired June 1 after 39 years of service. Two students from each class receive the award annually, with eight Bobcats recognized this year.
