HomeOwnership Center to host Road to Homeownership open house event

ELKINS, W.Va. — HomeOwnership Center, Inc. will be hosting its second annual homebuying open house event called ‘Road to Homeownership’ on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Folks interested in becoming homebuyers or learning how to become financially ready for homeownership are encouraged to attend the event.

The event will be open to the public between 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at HOC’s office located at 2276 Randolph Avenue in Elkins (in front of the Randolph County Housing Authority’s building).

HOC’s staff will teach four workshops surrounding homeownership and financial preparedness:

  • Secrets to Success for Personal Finance/Credit – 2:00 p.m.
  • Busting Homebuying Myths – 3:00 p.m.
  • Homebuying 101: Things to Know Before Buying – 4:00 p.m.
  • Tips on Building Credit – 5:00 p.m.

“This event will be a wonderful opportunity for anyone wanting to become a homeowner this year or, really, anytime in the future,” said HOC’s Executive Director Kate Somers. “We specifically chose workshops that address factors that can hinder a person from moving forward with homeownership as well as general homebuying information.”

“Our hope is that attendees leave with a better understanding of the homebuying process and with the education to reach their financial goals whether that’s homeownership, boosting their credit score or just simply learning how to manage their personal finances,” said HOC’s Home Ownership Advisor Jami Carpenter.

Several of HOC’s Preferred Realtors will be on-site to answer questions about the local housing marketing and the upcoming homebuying season. HOC started its Preferred Realtor Program in 2023 and it has become a great opportunity for local realtors to become educated on HOC’s services and mortgage options, which in return helps them better serve their customers.

For more information on this event, give HOC a call at 304-636-9115 or check for updates on Facebook and Instagram.
