Golf Bucs place fourth at six-team Stonewall event

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur golf team placed fourth out of six teams Wednesday evening at the Stonewall Resort in their second outing of the year.

The Bucs carded a 391 over the 18 holes.

Bridgeport, which had the top four golfers in the event, easily won the outing with a 337 while Parkersburg was a distant second with a 371 and North Marion was third with a 386.

Lewis County checked in fifth with a 395 while East Fairmont was sixth with a 410. Robert C. Byrd did not field a complete team.

“We had a high quality match to test ourselves against some good competition,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall.

The Bucs were led by Easton Perkins who shot a 91.

Following him were Brayden Hamer with a 98, Jevon Westfall with a 99 and Tucker Burr with a 103.

The non-scoring Bucs were Parker Lockwood with a 105 and Jaden Westfall with a 107.

“We had some really nice moments, however, we need to finish better,” stated coach Westfall. “This is why we play these type of matches early to help us grow. The conditions tested us and we had some issues with it. This will continue to help us prepare for where we want to be at the end of the season.”

Bridgeport’s Jaden Gregory took low medalist honors with an 82 while teammate Brayden Stutler took runner-up honors with an 84.

The action left the Bucs with a 3-3 record overall over 3-2 in the Big 10 Conference.

B-U will be back in action Wednesday hosting the Buccaneer Invitational at Stonewall. Scheduled to appear are Bridgeport, Brooke, Morgantown, Preston and University.

The Invitational will tee off at 10 a.m.
