GRAFTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers won a dual outing with the Grafton Bearcats last Tuesday at the Tygart Lake Golf Course.

The Bucs carded a 172 while Grafton shot a 181.

Grafton’s Dustin Keener earned low medalist honors with a 38.

Isaac Lane led the Bucs with a 40 while Evan Coffman owned a 41, Brayden Hamer shot a 45 and Easton Perkins rounded out the B-U scoring with a 46.

Tucker Hurst shot a 47 for the Bucs while Landon Hitt carded a 48.

“Coming down the stretch, it was good to see Lane play some solid golf again,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “He had two eagles and a birdie during the round. He still needs to clean up some decision-making but he will be ready. Hamer and Perkins came up huge for the team and helped us get the win. Hitt was just off but I expect him to be ready for the conference tournament.”

The Buccaneer and Bearcat junior varsity teams also squared off with the JV Buc downing the Bearcats.

The JV Bucs shot a 213 while the Bearcats carded a 229.

Tucker Burr led the Bucs with a 49 while Parker Lockwood and Jevon Westfall each shot a 54, Taylor Spratt shot a 56 and Jesse Hackett carded a 58.

The JV Bucs also participated in a “Futures Match” with Philip Barbour on Thursday at the Barbour Country Club.

The JV Bucs came up just short was they scored a 189 while Philip Barbour had a 174.

Perkins had the low score for the JV Bucs with a 44 while Hamer had a 45.

“We called it a ‘Futures Match’ as it was played by all underclassman against Philip Barbour’s varsity,” said Westfall. “We played through a light rain but our players handled themselves well. Most set career lows and they are showing vast improvement. Perkins, Jevon Westfall and Hackett all set personal lows.”

The loss left the JV Bucs with a 6-3 record.

The varsity Bucs will now zone in on the Big 10 Conference Tournament which will be played on Monday at the Bel Meadow Golf Course.

The Bucs will enter the tournament with a 39-7 record overall and a 23-1 mark in the Big 10.

“Our varsity players have had some time to get some practice under our belts,” concluded Westfall. “This is their time to shine. I am proud of everything that they have accomplished but it’s our time to win the Big 10 Conference Championship.”
