Freshmen Bucs get win in finale over Robert C. Byrd, 73-45

CLARKSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur freshmen Buccaneers ended their season on a strong note last Friday with a convincing 73-45 road victory over the Robert C. Byrd Eagles.

Damion White led the Bucs with 25 points while Jevon Westfall added 18 and Zikayah Oliver 13.

“I was proud of their effort,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Roberta Hatcher.  “Consistency has been an issue all season. They really came together and played as a team to finish with a win. Big efforts and leadership from Damion White and Jevon Westfall was the key to our win.”

The Bucs raced out to a 16-8 lead after one quarter with White, Westfall and Oliver all scoring four points and Aden McCartney and Joseph Shipman two each.

The Bucs dominated the second quarter winning it by a 22-10 margin, leaving them up 38-18 at the half.

White had nine points in the quarter while Westfall had five, Slaton Kowalski four, and Kaiden Marks and Oliver two each.

The Bucs kept rolling in the third quarter winning it 15-9 with White scoring five points, Oliver and McCartney three, and Kowalski and Westfall two each.

That treated them to a 53-27 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Buckhannon-Upshur won the final quarter by a 20-18 margin with White and Westfall pouring in seven points each, Oliver four and Marks two.

B-U ended their season with a 3-7 record.
