Garden club members Beth Post, Cindy Phillips, Vonnie Hager, Donna Carpenter and Rita Cochran.

Members of the Fred Brooks Garden Club and Upshur County CEOs gathered at the Episcopal Church in Buckhannon in October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Survivors Month and learn about early detection education. Guest speaker Dr. Kimberly Farry addressed the group about early detection, the importance of mammograms and additional ways of self-examination screening.

Several attendees shared their stories with the group. Fred Brooks Garden Club members honored survivors with beautiful long-stemmed pink roses. Feola’s Flowers and Greenhouse donated the lovely roses for the ceremony.

Numerous door prizes were awarded, including gift cards and many gift buckets.

Refreshments were served, including pizza, assorted sweets and a beautiful “Tackle Breast Cancer” cake. Following the meeting, garden club members delivered Breast Cancer Awareness wreaths to the Upshur County Courthouse, Buckhannon City Hall, Buckhannon-Upshur County Health Department, Upshur County Extension Office and Dr. Kimberly Farry’s office.
