BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan football opened the scoring on Homecoming Saturday at Cebe Ross Field, but Frostburg State responded with a balanced attack on the ground and through the air to hand the Bobcats a 55–9 setback in Mountain East Conference action.
The Bobcats (0–5, 0–2 MEC) struck first with an efficient eight-play, 77-yard drive capped by Alexander DeHart’s 24-yard field goal at the 7:55 mark, giving Wesleyan an early 3–0 lead. Quarterback Quinton Pulley connected on a 51-yard strike to Joseph Triplett during the drive, setting up the score.
Frostburg (4–0, 2–0 MEC) wasted little time answering. Quarterback Jordan Brooks hit Ray Adames on a 55-yard touchdown just 90 seconds later, flipping the lead to 7–3.
The Bobcats’ defense fought to hold ground, but Frostburg struck for 27 unanswered points in the second period. Running back Owen Doyle plunged in from two yards out, Brooks added touchdown passes of 41 and 11 yards to Adames and Tra’Shaun Timmons, and another connection from Brooks to Adames just before the half extended the Frostburg advantage to 34–3.
Wesleyan’s best chance to narrow the deficit before halftime came on a late drive to the Bobcat 12, but DeHart’s 29-yard field goal attempt was blocked as the half expired.
Wesleyan found the end zone midway through a 12-play, 75-yard drive early in the fourth. Pulley delivered a 16-yard touchdown strike to Amir Harris, capping one of the Bobcats’ most sustained offensive series of the night. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful, but the touchdown trimmed the margin to 48–9.
Pulley finished 9-of-28 passing for 109 yards and a touchdown, with his longest strike being the 51-yarder to Triplett. He also rushed for 29 yards. Running back Jayden Williams paced the ground game with 68 yards on 15 carries, while Triplett led receivers with 51 yards.
Defensively, Victor Georges led the Bobcats with six total tackles, while Riley Slaughter and Mathieu VanSteenlandt each added five. Freshman Elias Jeffries recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter.
After a four-game home stretch, the Bobcats go on the road next weekend for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff with Wheeling University.
