Fairmont State to host virtual open house for prospective students

Fairmont State University invites future Falcons to attend Maroon and White Week, an open house event for prospective students and their families, from April 11-17. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the week’s programming will be held virtually.

“The goal of Maroon and White Week is to provide a springboard for students, parents and others to learn more about their future here at Fairmont State, and to have a whole host of information sessions available at their fingertips,” said Chris Sharps, Senior Director of Recruitment. “One of the biggest reasons we hear from students and parents alike as to why they chose Fairmont State is small class sizes and direct contact with their teacher-mentors. Our classes aren’t filled with hundreds of students – the professors know their students by name.”

Maroon and White Week offers high school, transfer and international students, as well as adult learners, an opportunity to explore the many offerings that Fairmont State students enjoy. The week-long event will include informational sessions on the admissions process, financial aid, housing and student services, academic presentations representing more than 80 programs of study, details surrounding campus safety and institutional COVID-19 response measures, as well as discussions about the University’s honors program, clubs, student organizations and more. A virtual tour of campus will be available to prospective students in lieu of a traditional walking tour.

Attendees have the ability to customize their individual schedules and choose sessions based on their unique interests. The event schedule, including a full list of informational sessions and panels, will be released March 1. To register, visit www.fairmontstate.edu/visit

“Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions students and their families can make,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “Fairmont State is truly a place where personal attention and friendly support go hand-in-hand with opportunity. We transform students’ passion and hard work into excellence in a vibrant, close-knit campus community. We make this promise to students: If they bring a willingness and a determination to pursue their dreams, we will provide them with everything they need to achieve them.”

Fairmont State University’s cozy, tree-filled hilltop campus is located in Fairmont, along the state’s growing high technology corridor. Fairmont State is a comprehensive, student-centered, state-supported institution offering 41 degree programs and over 90 programs of study in the arts and sciences, engineering and technology, teacher education, nursing and business administration.
