Gas leak resolved after evacuation ordered in downtown Buckhannon Thursday morning

BUCKHANNON – A large natural gas leak in downtown Buckhannon that prompted local emergency officials to evacuate parts of West Main Street has been resolved.

An alert from the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management was issued at 8:25 a.m. Thursday morning. It said that due to a ‘signification natural gas leak’ people were asked to avoid the area near Walgreens, Community Care and People’s Bank. A 300-foot evacuation radius was established.

About 30 minutes later, a follow-up message said the leak was resolved.
