Enjoy a day of music at Saturday’s Buccaneer Marching Band Festival

BUCKHANNON – Parents, family members, friends, community members, band alumni and those just wanting to hear some great music and see bands from across the area are invited to join the Buckhannon-Upshur “Pride of Upshur County” Buccaneer Band as they present their first Buccaneer Marching Band Festival on Saturday.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Buckhannon-Upshur High School Fred “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium at 270 BU Drive in Buckhannon.

Eliza Taylor, director of the B-UHS Marching Band, said the festival is an opportunity to attend an event that is both a competition and a spectacular, giving bands the opportunity to play and enjoy a day of making music. Taylor remarked that she hopes many folks will come out to cheer on the bands and enjoy watching them perform.

The competition is part of the West Virginia Governor’s Cup Marching Band Series.

The Buccaneer Marching Band Festival gives bands the opportunity to compete in four classes based on size, and bands may choose to be judged on their Color Guards, Majorettes, Feature Twirlers, Drum Majors, Percussion Sections and Dance Teams.

The day’s fun will feature music and food. Admission to the event is $5 for students and $10 for general admission. B-UHS Band BOBA will be available at the lower concession stand and Buccaneer Marching Band Festival T-shirts will be for sale, featuring a choice of blue, gray or tye-dyed shirts.

Taylor said she and band members are hoping for great support for this event.

“We would love to see some good attendance and support for the Buccaneer Marching Band,” Taylor said.
