GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State College senior Mazie Elliott invites the public to attend a reception for her senior art show on Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. The show will be on display in GSC’s Fine Arts Center Gallery prior to the reception from Monday, Nov. 18 to Friday, Nov. 22.
The exhibit, titled “Unitsi Elohi,” will include modern aspects of Elliott’s native culture including photographs, paintings, ceramic pieces, and more. “Unitsi Elohi” is Cherokee for Mother Nature.
“My inspirations come from my culture and my adoration and respect for nature,” said Elliott. “Another inspiration comes from my mom through her teaching me art at a young age. She is an artist, and it has always been a world I love to be in.”
“I would like to thank my mom Tammy and my grandmother Mazie for giving me the love of art since I was born. Whether it was music, painting, or even dancing, they gave me a love for something that will always be a close reminder of them. Also, I would like to thank my husband Logan for always encouraging me and appreciating my artwork, especially while I am in college working my way up artistically.”
After graduation, Elliott plans to continue to expand on her Native American art and work her way into the advertising industry.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and one hour before all GSC musical performances in the Fine Arts Center. For more information, call (304) 462-6340.
