Early voting starts Oct. 26 and other important info about the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election

BUCKHANNON – The Nov. 8 general election is just around the corner and early voting starts Oct. 26.

Upshur County Clerk Carol Smith said several deadlines are fast approaching, including absentee application requests and registering to vote. The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 8 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 18, and applications to register can be found at upshurcounty.org or govotewv.com.

“People looking for an absentee ballot application can call the office and we’ll send them an application, or they can go to the county website and we have them under the ‘County Clerk’ tab there or they can go to govotewv.com and the Secretary of State has them on his website,” Smith said.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Nov. 2, 2022.

Smith said they have received about 60 applications for absentee ballots for the upcoming election. Election day is Nov. 8, 2022, and the polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Primary elections are in May, and general elections take place in November, Smith said.

“A primary election is how you select the person that’s going to run for your party and the general election is when each party is running against each other,” Smith said.

Smith also broke down all the items that will be on the upcoming ballot.

“The national ticket is for the U.S. House of Representatives for the Second Congressional District and the state ticket has two things — the election for the Senatorial District, which we are in the 11th and then it is for the members of the House of Delegates and we are 64, 65 and 68,” Smith said. “For the county ticket, we have the circuit clerk, county commissioner and county clerk, and then the next thing that follows are the amendments that are on the ballot, which there are four and then you have the continuance of the Board of Education levy election.”

Sample ballots can be found at upshurcounty.org under the County Clerk tab. The Upshur County Clerk can be reached at 304-472-1068 if anyone has questions about their designated precinct or their registration status.
