On Thursday, September 5, the Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit, with the assistance of members of the West Virginia State Police Buckhannon Detachment, Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and Buckhannon City Police executed a search warrant at the residence of Billy Joe Keyser on Arcadia Drive in Buckhannon, according to a press release.

During the search of the residence, officers had located and seized approximately 45 grams of suspected marijuana, 16 grams of suspected methamphetamine, heroin and another unidentified substance along with U.S. currency, digital scales and pre-packaged prescription pills.

Keyser was arrested on a traffic stop prior to the search and has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Keyser was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Lewis County for a driving offense.

The Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit is comprised of officers from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, Braxton County Sheriff’s Department, Buckhannon Police Department and W.Va. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

Defendants who are charged criminally are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
