Dive in! Upshur County Youth Soccer pool parties slated for Tuesday

TENNERTON — If you’ve played in the Upshur County Youth Soccer league this spring, it’s your turn to take a dip on Tuesday, June 4 or Wednesday, June 5.

UCYS will be hosting two end-of-the-year league pool parties at the Upshur County Recreational Park Pool at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

The party for ages U-8 and under is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 from 6-8 p.m., while party for ages U-10 and above is Wednesday, June 5 from 6-8 p.m.

Admission is free for players and their guests, and the League will supply pizza and Zul’s Frozen Lemonade.

UCYS president Kevin Nicholson said nearly 300 youth played in the league this spring.

“The parties are a thank-you to our players, coaches and families,” Nicholson said. “We will be registering for the fall season at both parties.”

UCYS is always searching for volunteers and referees, as the league continues to grow.

“We are a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, so we survive solely on registration fees, sponsorships and donations,” Nicholson explained. “We are currently accepting sponsors for the next season.”

Businesses who sponsor teams for $350 get their logo on the back of a team jersey for both fall and spring seasons.

“The league has continued to steadily grow in the last three years,” Nicholson said. “We are excited to see all the new players getting to experience this wonderful game. However, with growth, comes challenges.

“In order for us to continue to grow, we need more volunteers. Every team we add means we need more coaches and referees. We are critically low on referees at this time. We cannot continue to grow with these volunteers.”

Anyone wishing to find out more information about volunteering or being certified as a referee should contact Nicholson at knicholson77@gmail.com or email ucyssoccer@gmail.com. Find the league at ‘UCYS-Upshur County Youth Soccer’ on Facebook.
