WESTON, W.Va. – Choice, convenience and cost are the patient-centric features of Direct Access Laboratory Testing offered at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. Direct Access Testing enables patients to select lab tests without an order from a healthcare provider and schedule low-cost testing at the SJMH Laboratory, which operates 24 hours per day, seven day a week.

SJMH Lab Directory, Angela Cedeño, MT (ASCP) noted, “This is a great opportunity for our patients to have immediate access to lab testing. Providing Direct Access Testing allows us to enhance the health of our community by permitting patients to have greater access and control of their health care.”

There are various same day tests available, while others require 24 hours or more to yield results. Fasting is required for the lipid panel, the comprehensive panel and the finger stick glucose.

Patient costs will vary based on the type of testing desired. Fingerstick glucose testing and blood typing are $10. More complex tests, such as Lyme and the COVID-19 antibody testing will range from $75 – $80.

Results are available electronically upon registering for the Patient Portal, allowing immediate access to laboratory results. Patients also have the option to have the results mailed to their home address.

Direct Access options are ideal for those seeking quick and convenient results. Uninsured, underinsured or patients with high deductible plans may also benefit from this service.
