DHS Foundation to host community events on Sept. 12

Elkins, WV—On Thursday, September 12 the Davis Health System Foundation will host a Blessing of the Bricks ceremony at the Davis House, followed by a dedication of a new space that will be transformed into a Serenity Garden for patients, guests, and staff.

The Blessing of the Bricks will begin at 6 p.m. and is an annual celebration of all those persons honored or memorialized in Legacy Lane, a commemorative brick garden at the Davis House. Bricks that are available for purchase are featured in the brick garden and are inscribed with the names of family and friends.

Immediately following the ceremony in the brick garden, the community is invited to join a short dedication of the Serenity Garden which will be located along the Gorman Avenue side of Davis Medical Center near the Visitor entrance. This project evolved out of the vision of members of the Emma Scott Garden Club, who recognized a need for a welcoming place for visitors to get away and reflect.

The Emma Scott Garden Club team is working with DHS architect Jeri Pastine on the construction and “hardscaping” plans for the garden which will become a reality in the late Spring of 2020. The space is designed to include stone pathways, serene colors, comfortable benches, and complimentary planted and potted plants.

“We are grateful for the support of the Emma Scott Garden Club for sharing their talents to this unique project,” said DHS President and CEO Vance Jackson. “Patients, families and staff will enjoy this garden as a place for contemplation or just to enjoy some time outside.”

A brief reception will be held in the DMC Visitor Lobby where guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and learn more about both the Legacy Lane and Serenity Garden projects.
