Davis Health System pediatrician Dr. Amanda Pennington recognized by W.Va. School of Osteopathic Medicine

DMC Pediatrician Amanda Pennington, MD has been honored as the Primary Care Outstanding Preceptor by the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM). Dr. Pennington and other DMC providers mentor third-year students in their pursuit of a medical degree. WVSOM representatives Dr. Josalyn Mann, Regional Assistant Dean, and Adrienne Tucker, Statewide Campus Director, presented the award to Dr. Pennington on Thursday, August 31.

Elkins, W.Va. – Davis Health System is proud to announce Pediatrician Amanda Pennington, MD, is the recipient of the Primary Care Outstanding Preceptor for the Central East Region in 2023 by the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM).

The Outstanding Preceptor Awards are presented to physicians who exhibit professionalism and demonstrate service to medical students including a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and giving back to the education process. They also serve as a positive role model by reflecting their commitment to the Osteopathic Tenets or Hippocratic Oath and their commitment to patient care.

“The recognition is reflective of Dr. Pennington’s commitment to educating the future of medicine, and her professional approach to patient care,” said DHS Chief Medical Officer Catherine Chua, DO, FAAFP, FMNM, CPE, FAAPL.  “Our WVSOM students represent a variety of backgrounds and interests.  For Dr. Pennington to be selected among all other preceptors in the Central East Region is a special honor.”

Davis Medical Center in Elkins collaborates with the WVSOM in teaching and mentoring third year medical students. Students spend one-year alongside DMC physicians in rotations representing various general and specialty care disciplines.

Each year, WVSOM presents two Outstanding Preceptors Awards in each statewide campus region, with one going to a primary care physician and one to a non-primary care specialist. The students in each region nominate and vote on the preceptors for the awards. DMC’s Region, the Central East Region, includes Elkins, Buckhannon, Weston, Bridgeport, and Morgantown.

Dr. Josalyn Mann, Regional Assistant Dean, and Adrienne Tucker, Statewide Campus Director for WVSOM, presented the award to Dr. Pennington on Thursday, August 31.

“Our deepest appreciation goes out to Dr. Pennington for training our students. It is extremely well-deserved,” said Dr. Mann.

Dr. Pennington is a pediatrician at DMC. During her 12-year tenure, she has served as a Preceptor, DMC Chief of Staff, and the health system Credentials Chair.
