“Conversations about Women’s Health” Brunch-n-Learn is part of Women’s Health Day, Oct. 26

Elkins, W.Va. – Women of all ages are invited to a “Conversations about Women’s Health” Brunch-n-Learn being held during Davis Medical Center’s (DMC) Women’s Health Day scheduled for Saturday, October 26.

The Brunch–n–Learn begins at 9:30 a.m. immediately following the free health screenings, which will be offered between 7:30 and 9 a.m.  “Conversations about Women’s Health,” including the Brunch Bar and beverages, is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Overflow Room on the ground floor of Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Catherine “Mindy” Chua, D.O., chief medical officer for Davis Health System (DHS), will explore thyroid cancer in women, including the risk factors, diagnosis, types, treatments/therapies, and prevention.

“Women are more likely than men to have thyroid diseases, especially right after pregnancy and after menopause,” said Dr. Chua. “Because the technology to detect smaller tumors is advancing, we are able to diagnose thyroid cancer more accurately and more quickly than ever before. I think it’s very important for women of all ages to learn more about thyroid issues.”

Yasmin Hamirani, M.D., cardiologist at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, will discuss heart disease in women.  Heart disease is often thought to be a problem for men, but heart disease is the most common cause of death for both men and women.  Dr. Hamirani will help women understand their unique symptoms of heart disease and steps to take to decrease their risk.

Interested persons can register for the event on the DHS Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DHSWV/, or call 304-637-3378 for more information.

Those who attend the Brunch-n-Learn will receive a free gift and the opportunity to win door prizes.
