City of Buckhannon calendar for the week of January 19, 2026

Buckhannon’s week of Jan. 19 includes MLK Day closures (waste collection still on schedule), curbside recycling pickup Tuesday at 6 a.m., and a Consolidated Public Works meeting Thursday with in-person and virtual options.

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are open to the public and will take place in the Council Chambers at Buckhannon City Hall, 70 E. Main St.

Monday, January 19

Martin Luther King Jr. Day — In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all city offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed. The normal waste collection schedule will occur.

Tuesday, January 20

Curbside recycling pick-up begins at 6 a.m. — Pick-up occurs within the Buckhannon city limits. Information about recycling can be found on the city website, at City Hall or by calling the Recycling Center or Upshur County Solid Waste Authority at 304-472-4443.

Thursday, January 22

Consolidated Public Works Meeting, 7:30–8:30 a.m. — Attend in person or join virtually using this link or by calling 872-240-3212, access code 376-934-309.

Planning Commission meeting — A regular meeting of the Buckhannon City Planning Commission will be held on January 27 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 70 E. Main St. This is an open meeting per WV Code § 6-9A-3, and all interested parties are welcome to attend.

Reminders

Snow and ice removal — Under City Ordinance 193, property owners must remove snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their premises. Prompt clearing ensures safe passage for children walking to school, seniors and neighbors with mobility challenges. Clear sidewalks as soon as practical after snowfall and maintain them throughout winter weather.

Trash can placement — Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week. Place them at the curb the night before collection and return them within 24 hours after collection.

Utility bill payments — Pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.

Report repairs or concerns — To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use the Report a Concern tool.
