City announces holiday schedule, fireworks and road maintenance projects

BUCKHANNON — Here is what’s on the city’s calendar for July 1, 2024, through July 5, 2024.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers of Buckhannon City Hall, 70 E Main St, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

**Tuesday, July 2, 2024**

Curbside Recycling Pick-Up begins at 6:00 a.m. within the city limits. Information about recycling can be found on the Recycling page or at City Hall. You can also call the Recycling Center or Upshur County Solid Waste Authority at (304) 472-4443.

**Thursday, July 4, 2024**

Independence Day Holiday. All city offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed. There will be no waste collection on this day.

**Friday, July 5, 2024**

The City of Buckhannon’s Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration will be part of Create Buckhannon’s Festival Fridays, featuring the band Stonestreet. This year’s fireworks are sponsored by Citizens Bank of WV, Buckhannon Toyota, Mike Ross & Ike Morris, Par Mar-The Donut Spot, and Potesta & Associates, Inc. The City of Buckhannon thanks these sponsors.

Notice of the City Council Meeting scheduled for July: The City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. July’s meetings will be merged due to the Fourth of July holiday.

**Scheduled Street Maintenance in Buckhannon**

-Sunday, June 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday: Crews from J.F. Allen will repair Main Street from Route 20 to City Hall. No parking on Main Street during this time. Cars must be moved by 5:30 p.m. each evening, and any remaining vehicles will be towed as necessary.

– Monday, July 1, through Wednesday, July 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day: Crews will mill Main Street from the Old Weston Road overpass/railroad tracks to City Hall. No parking on Main Street during this time. Cars must be moved by 5:30 p.m. each evening. The remaining vehicles will be towed as necessary.

-Sunday, July 7, through Thursday, July 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day: Crews will pave Main Street from the Old Weston Road overpass/railroad tracks. No parking on Main Street during this time. Cars must be moved by 5:30 p.m. each evening. The remaining vehicles will be towed as necessary.

**Colonial Arts Center Presents**

The Colonial Arts Center will welcome the Rustic Mechanicals in their 11th season for their Thundering Hearts Tour, presenting William Shakespeare’s The Tempest on July 12. The Mechanicals performed at the Colonial Arts Center last summer with their production of The Comedy of Errors. Founded by Celi Oliveto in the summer of 2014, the Rustic Mechanicals is the only troupe in the state dedicated to touring the works of Shakespeare and other classical playwrights. Tickets are $17.50 and can be purchased on the Colonial Arts Center website. Click on upcoming events.

Even if you do not wish to pay your bill using this method, you may still want to set up an account to monitor your consumption. To sign up, complete the online registration. You will need your Utility Board Account Number (printed on your bill) and the last amount you paid. Once your account has been established, log in with your email and password.

**Reporting a Necessary Repair or Registering a Concern with the City**

To report a necessary repair, such as potholes, damaged street signs, issues in a city park, etc., call City Hall during regular business hours and ask to submit a work order request. This will speed up the reaction time to matters needing immediate attention.
