Charles O. Buzzard

Charles O. Buzzard, age 81, formerly of Barboursville, WV, died Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mountain Memories in Elkins, where he had recently been residing.

He was born on March 29, 1943, in Barton, WV, a son of the late Elwood Sherman and Wayonda Virginia Chapman Buzzard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law: Thomas C. and Opal Thomas Bennett; grandparents: Edgar and Icie Seabolt Chapman; one brother Richard C. Buzzard; one sister Tonia Harris; and one nephew Christopher Buzzard.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Bennett) Buzzard, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage in October 2024; two brothers-in-law: Thomas C. Bennett and Les Harris; sister-in-law Cleo (Camp) Buzzard; aunt Shirley Chapman; nieces and nephews: Deanna Buzzard Carothers (Lee), Terri Buzzard Stafford (Glen), Tena Bennett Huffman (Jud), Jeanie Bennett Walkowiak (Michael), Travis Bennett, Carl Bennett (Morgan), and Rebecca Harris (Tim).

Charles was a Baptist by faith and member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Huntington. He was a schoolteacher at Milton High and Cabell-Midland High for a total of 32 years. Alongside his wife, he was an active member of the Barboursville Lions Club, where he was a Past President and integral in the Leo Club.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, the funeral hour, with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Interment will follow in the Pickens Cemetery.
