Carol Jo Tenney

Carol Jo Tenney, 79, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Teays Valley Center in Hurricane, WV.

She was born November 25, 1944, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Clifton Carroll and Josephine May Sutton Starkey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant children, Becky Dawn Tenney, Forrest Clifton Tenney, brother, Clifton “Butch” Starkey Jr, and Stepmother Mamie Georgeline Starkey.

She is survived by her daughter, Johnna Darnell and husband Matthew of Charleston, WV; one brother, Tip Starkey and wife Debbie of Buckhannon; three sisters, Latisha Jackson and husband Robert of Hodgesville, WV, Tammy Trump and husband Jeff of Charleston, WV, and Tracy Burnside and husband Karl of Buckhannon, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was fondly known to family members as “Pigeon.” She was a graduate of BUHS and attended Tennerton United Methodist church. Her working years were spent at the Starkey family business, Modern Manufacturing. Later in life, she moved to Charleston, WV, to be with her daughter Johnna and son-in-law Matthew.

Carol was a kind, generous, and loving person that will be sadly missed by family and friends.

In honoring Carol’s wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held April 21, 2024, at Poling St. Clair Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Mount Union Cemetery with her preceded children.
