Buckhannon Walmart grocery pickup service set to kick off Wednesday

BUCKHANNON – Just as promised in June, Buckhannon Walmart will begin offering grocery pickup services beginning this Wednesday, July 29 beginning at 7 a.m.

This will be a huge help for folks who have mobility issues or those who do not want to go into the store due to health-related concerns, time restrictions or any other reason to complete their shopping.

During a phone interview with My Buckhannon on Monday, Buckhannon Walmart Store Manager Vonda Cable said that the program is due to kick off this Wednesday, and folks are welcome to go online now to start scheduling the grocery pickup services.

“Folks wanting to place a pickup order need to go on the Walmart App and pick your store,” Cable said, adding that Buckhannon Walmart is store No. 2809. “Then, folks can pick out a day and time to schedule their pickup.”

Cable said the hours for pickup at Buckhannon Walmart are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“I’ll be honest – our first day for pickup – Wednesday, July 29 is almost full already,” Cable said.

Cable said the administration and staff at Buckhannon Walmart is excited to be able to offer this shopping option to its customers.

“Especially with COVID-19, we are happy to be able to offer this to our community,” Cable said. “A lot of people do not like the mask/face covering mandate, so this is an easy way for them to avoid that.”

Cable said Buckhannon Walmart follows Walmart’s corporate policy regarding masks by requesting, but not mandating, that all shoppers entering the store wear masks.

“We verbally request they do, and we have them available if customers need them, but if they can’t for some reason, such as age, a health condition or religious beliefs, our policy is to ask and if they decline, we thank them for shopping at Walmart,” Cable said.

However, Buckhannon Walmart is requesting that everyone who is capable of wearing a mask does so upon entering the store.

But back to grocery pickup, here’s how it works: Once folks go onto the Walmart App, they can follow the directions to pick out a date and time for their pickup as well as select the items they wish to purchase.

“When you arrive at Buckhannon Walmart at your designated time, you let us know you are here for your pickup,” she said. “We will bring your order straight out to your car, we will load up your purchase in your car and you are good to go.”

Cable said there are orange signs in the Buckhannon Walmart parking lot that designate where folks go to call for and receive their pickup.

“Those signs are posted in our lot,” she said.

“We want to thank the community for being patient with us during the time we shifted the goods around in our store so we could complete this project,” Cable said. “We want to thank everyone for their patience during the COVID-19 outbreak. We are so glad to be part of this community and so happy to be able to offer this pickup service to so many people in this community. There are lots of folks who are homebound who have others shopping for them. This will help them be assured they are getting what they need. We are really excited about this.”
