Buckhannon: Then & Now. Join us in showcasing Upshur County throughout history and today.

With gloomy fall weather around us, let’s take a look back in time to much warmer, summer weather!

Pictured below was known as “West’s Pool”. The pool was built in the late-1940s/early-1950s by Garland West. At this time, West also owned the Colonial Theatre and West’s Drive In located in Tennerton. Buckhannon residents and visitors would visit this refreshing pool near the modern day parking lot for the BiCentennial Inn, 88 Restaurant and The Peak Pavilion on East Main Street.

After Garland West passed away, this property was sold to Mayor and Mrs. J.D. Hinkle and operated for a few years as “Hinkle Pool”. Then, it became a parking lot that we all see and use today.
