ELKINS — Davis & Elkins College junior and theatre major Kyia McGill will take to the stage with The Rustic Mechanicals Shakespeare Troupe at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at the Augusta Dance Pavilion on the College campus. The performance of “Love’s Labour’s Lost” will be hosted by the Davis & Elkins Theatre and Film Department.

“Love’s Labour’s Lost” starts when the King of Navarre and his three courtiers forswear all pleasure – particularly of the female variety – in favor of a life of study. The arrival of the Princess of France and her ladies plays havoc with their intentions. Using every kind of verbal gymnastics to poke fun, “Love’s Labour’s Lost” proves to be Shakespeare’s most intellectual comedy. The Rustic Mechanicals production is filled with music, romance, charm and a healthy dose of laugh-out-loud hilarity.

“Being in The Rustic Mechanicals’ production of ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’ is truly an amazing experience, and I couldn’t have done it without the training I’ve received at Davis & Elkins College,” McGill said. “As a major there, I have been utterly immersed into all sides of theatre, from acting to even stage makeup, and it has only strengthened the skills I had previously and made me capable of taking on this production over the summer. I have absolutely no doubt that in the same way D&E has helped me grow, The Rustic Mechanicals will do the same thing for me.”

A resident of Buckhannon, McGill is the daughter of Jeremy and Elaine McGill.

The Rustic Mechanicals is West Virginia’s only Shakespeare Troupe. The troupe produces three tours a year, hosts several special events and runs a high school Apprentice Troupe.

The performance is directed by Jim Warren, alongside Intimacy Director Jessica Morgan with technical direction by David Byard, costume design by Jason A Young, hair and make-up design by Samantha Huffman, production management by Haley Wilson, and dramaturgy by John Shirley. Along with McGill, the Mechanicals featured in this production include newcomers Erica Cottrill, M. Eric Jett, Jackson Johnson, Jordan Kennedy Rea, Ben Long, Kyra McKillip, Tim Walker and troupe veterans Derek Hess, Samantha Huffman, Jason A Young, and Sarah Young.

General admission tickets are $15 and can be ordered online at: www.eventbrite.com/e/the-rustic-mechanicals-loves-labours-lost-at-davis-elkins-college-tickets-344885571027
