Buckhannon native Stephanie Barker joins Mon Health Heart & Vascular in Weston

WESTON, W.Va. – The physicians of Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center continue to bring the latest advancements in cardiac care to locations close to home. The newest addition of the Center is Stephanie Barker, Nurse Practitioner, now practicing at the Heart & Vascular location in Weston.

Barker, a Buckhannon native, understands the importance of access to cardiology services, and has a special interest in her cardiac/vascular patients since she was a registered nurse at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital for six years in the Intensive Care Unit. After becoming a nurse practitioner, she trained at Mon Health Medical Center and worked alongside experts in the field.

“I have always had a passion for heart and vascular work,” Barker stated. “Our geographical location makes it important to have an office centrally located for patients. By having an office here in Weston and Lewis County, our patients do not have to drive a distance to receive important cardiac care.”

The state of West Virginia ranks first highest in the nation in prevalence of heart attacks (7.5%) and coronary heart disease (8.0%). The state ranks seventh highest in the prevalence of stroke (4.4%) and the overall cardiovascular disease prevalence is highest in the nation, according to the WV Department of Health and Human Resources.

These statistics make it that more important to bring the award-winning Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center close to patients in North Central West Virginia. The Center brings the latest advancements in cardiac care to the community hospital setting, offering patients the expertise and comfort they deserve. From diagnostics to surgery, the Mon Health physicians use a comprehensive approach focused on individualized care and exceptional outcomes. With a highly skilled clinical team, patients receive the care and attention they need to get back to an active, rewarding life.

Barker received her undergraduate degree from Alderson Broaddus University and her graduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan. She and her husband, Adam, have three children. After high school she spent ten years in Intelligence Operations with the 101st Airborne, spending two tours in Iraq, and a stint in Germany.

“I love to learn new things and taking care of these patients. I look forward to seeing new patients and expanding new services for them here,” she concluded.
