Buckhannon filmmaker wins at International Film Festival

Bryce O’Loughlin in Pee Paw

Buckhannon filmmaker Bryce O’Loughlin competed at the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival in Morgantown, W.Va. over the weekend of April 22-23. His film “Cheeseburger” was selected to screen from hundreds of applicants, and on Saturday the film was awarded “Best of West Virginia.”

“Cheeseburger” is part of a variety web series called “Pee-Paw.” The comedy show is intended to showcase local performers and artists. The episode was written by O’Loughlin and Curly Frye. Frye is the featured artist for the episode and performs his rap song, “Flippin’ Coast to Coast.”

“We are honored to be recognized alongside great films from around the world,” O’Loughlin said. Apart from showcasing the musical talents of Curly Frye, “Cheeseburger” provides a commentary on the food service industry and highlights a disconnect between patrons and workers.

The WVMSFF is an international festival created in 2010 in coordination with the Electronic Media program of the WVU College of Art and Design. This year’s festival received hundreds of submissions from around the world. Winning “Best of West Virginia” has served as a great motivation for O’Loughlin who is “excited to get back to work on the next episode.
