CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming teams repeated as Mountain East Conference Champions on Saturday evening, following the conclusion of the 2024 G-MAC/MEC Swimming & Diving Championships in Canton.
Frostburg State was the highest scoring MEC team in the meet’s team standings, with the men scoring 1,303 points, topping Fairmont State (719.50), Davis & Elkins (671), Notre Dame (520), Wheeling (394) and West Virginia Wesleyan (282) for the league championship.
In the women’s standings, Frostburg State scored 964.50 points, outscoring Fairmont State (555), Wheeling (500.50), Davis & Elkins (458), Notre Dame (423) and West Virginia Wesleyan (160) for the championship.
Saturday’s finals were headlined by a pair of second-place finishes in men’s individual events. Frostburg State’s Nate Canapp finished second in the 1650 with a time of 15:59.32, while Fairmont State’s Patrick Fubio finished runner-up in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.57.
The Frostburg State men’s and women’s relay teams turned in third-place finishes in the 400 freestyle relays to close out the night.
Following the meet, Notre Dame College freshman Juan Diego Nunez Barreras was named the men’s Freshman of the Meet. Nunez Barreras finished sixth in the 1650 freestyle on Saturday evening.
