Big fourth quarter leads JV Bucs to a 59-53 win over Philip Barbour

PHILLIPI – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers rallied in the fourth quarter from a two-point deficit for a 59-53 win over the Philip Barbour Colts Wednesday evening.

The Bucs were also money at the free throw line, going 15-for-19 in helping them to the win.

The Bucs went down early in the first quarter by a 20-15 margin.

In that first quarter, Damion White and Xavier Robinette each had five points while Jacob Frye added a three-pointer and Brody McDaniels contributed a basket.

In a slow-moving second quarter, the Bucs lost it by a 7-6 count as McDaniels tallied four points and Jimmie Green added two points.

That left the Bucs down by a 27-21 score at the half.

Buckhannon-Upshur closed that gap in the third quarter, winning it by an 18-14 margin as White, Robinette and McDaniels each had four points while Frye, Kadyn Baisden and Colten Warner each had two.

That brought the visitors to within two, at 41-39, going into the final frame.

The Bucs had a strong fourth quarter winning it by a 20-12 score to secure the victory.

In the final quarter, White had eight points, Frye seven, Robinette three and Baisden two for the Bucs.

Talen Stout had a team-high 15 points for Philip Barbour.

White had a game-high 17 points to lead the Bucs while Frye and Robinette each had 12.

The win gave the Bucs a 5-5 record on the year.

They will be back in action Friday at Bridgeport for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
