BCT, Fish Hawk Acres team up for ‘We’re Not in Kansas Anymore’ benefit dinner

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon Community Theatre and Fish Hawk Acres invite the community to travel down the yellow brick road to a farm dinner fundraiser.

Katie Loudin with the BCT said the fundraiser will take place July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fish Hawk Farm in Rock Cave. This is the first fundraiser involving a collaboration between Fish Hawk Acres and the BCT.

“Dale [Hawkins] was gracious and brought it to me as an idea, and we’re going to have volunteers there to help his staff; we’re going to have a few performers there as well, singing a few highlights from our upcoming production, ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” Loudin said.

“The whole dinner is themed, and the title of the dinner is ‘We’re not in Kansas Anymore,’ so it’s going to be really cute, and we really appreciate the time he and his staff put into making this really unique and related to our big summer production.”

Loudin and Hawkins used the annual Upshur County Public Library Ramp Dinner as an example for the fundraiser.

“I’m on the Library Board, and we took the model from the ramp dinner, and Dale said they would be interested in forming a long-term partnership to help the theater, potentially make this an annual event,” Loudin said. “We’re going to see how it goes, and we’ll go from there.”

Tickets cost $40 for adults and $20 for children, and the proceeds will help the BCT cover production costs for their 2023 performances.

“Most people don’t understand there’s a really high-dollar cost that comes with putting on quality theater productions, and ticket revenue alone is not enough to cover the expenses,” Loudin said. “We’re producing four shows in total this year. We did the ‘Red Velvet Cake War’ in May, we have the ‘Wizard of Oz’ coming up the first weekend in August, we’re doing a murder mystery dinner theater with the Chamber of Commerce in October, and then we’re doing ‘Christmas Story’ at the Colonial in December.”

Tickets for the dinner may be purchased here, and the deadline to purchase them is July 23. The ticket price includes a salad, entrée, bread, dessert and beverage.

The themed menu includes:

Salad:
Emerald City Fresh Greens with Heirloom Tomato & Cucumber Salad, tossed with Seasoned Rice Vinegar & Fresh Dill
