Basketball ‘Cats lose finale to Senators, 92-76

BUCKHANNON – In a battle of Mountain East Conference rivals, Davis & Elkins (11-17, 7-13 MEC) used a strong second-half performance to pull away from West Virginia Wesleyan (5-23, 2-18 MEC), for a 92-76 victory on Saturday afternoon at Rockefeller Center.

The game opened with a competitive first half as both teams traded baskets early. Alex Mirhosseini kept the Bobcats in the fight, scoring 25 points in the game, including 14 in the first half. Curtis Litton added 13 points for Wesleyan.

Davis & Elkins started to gain control in the final minutes of the first half, sparked by Charleston Ponds’ shooting and Nicolas Silva’s strong inside presence. A late three-pointer by Ponds before the break extended the Senators’ lead to 43-34 at halftime.

Davis & Elkins carried its momentum into the second half, pushing its lead to double digits. The Senators shot 53.85% from beyond the arc in the second half.

The Bobcats made several attempts to rally, with Mirhosseini and Litton connecting on key baskets, but defensive pressure from Davis & Elkins forced 10 turnovers.

The Bobcats struggled from deep, hitting just 7-of-25 three-pointers (28.0%), while Davis & Elkins capitalized on its free throw attempts, going 17-for-21 (81.0%) to seal the game.
