Basketball ‘Cats end four-game slide with 81-73 victory over Tigers

SALEM — West Virginia Wesleyan’s men’s basketball team beat Salem University 81-73 to end a four-game losing streak Wednesday in Salem.

Wesleyan’s defense looked nothing like its last-in-league rebounding average of 31 per game as it hammered the boards for 47 grabs, 17 offensive and 30 defensive. Salem had a respectable 31 rebounds.

Alex Mirhosseini led all scorers with 19 points and contributed four assists, nine rebounds and a blocked shot. Mirhosseini remains fifth in the MEC with a 17.2 points-per-game average.

Anthony Crosby, who is second in scoring for the ‘Cats with a 14-point average, had 18 points, one assist and six rebounds. Stephen Ovia added 12 points, one assist and six rebounds.

Jack Garrison IV scored Salem’s team high 18 points, contributed three assists and grabbed two rebounds. Daquan Coleman had 14 points and two rebounds.

Wesleyan hosts Point Park University (Pa.) Saturday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m.
