GLENVILLE – In a game packed with clutch shots, momentum swings, and late-game drama, Glenville State erased a 12-point halftime deficit and outlasted West Virginia Wesleyan 92-90 in overtime at the Waco Center on Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan came out scorching in the first half, shooting 62.5% (20-of-32) from the field and 66.7% (8-of-12) from three-point range, building a 12-point lead at the break.
Senior Alex Mirhosseini led the Bobcats with 25 points, seven assists, and two blocks, but his impact was minimized in the second half due to foul trouble. Curtis Litton finished with 18 points and four rebounds, while Anthony Crosby contributed 16 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting.
Despite its offensive efficiency, Wesleyan struggled from the free-throw line, going just 3-for-5 on the night, a stark contrast to Glenville State’s 17-for-20 performance, which proved to be the difference.
Trailing 51-39 at halftime, Glenville State (14-10, 8-8 MEC) came out firing in the second half, outscoring Wesleyan (5-19, 2-14 MEC) 44-32 to force overtime.
Leading the comeback charge was Ammar Maxwell, who finished with 23 points and 4 rebounds, and Devin Collins, who added 23 points and eight rebounds, knocking down four three-pointers. Guard Samier Kinsler was instrumental off the bench, chipping in 21 points on 6-of-10 three-point shooting, including a dagger from deep in overtime.
The extra period saw Glenville State strike first with a Kinsler three-pointer, pushing the lead to 89-83. However, Wesleyan fought back, cutting the deficit to 91-90 on a clutch Litton three-pointer with just over a minute left.
With a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, Lamont Jones missed a critical free throw, and Glenville State secured the rebound to escape with the win.
