Barbour County man among 11 new COVID-19 deaths reported Tuesday morning

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 277 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Barbour (1) and Randolph (2) counties.

A total of 33 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eleven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 85-year old female from Raleigh County, a 57-year old male from Wyoming County, a 74-year old male from Nicholas County, a 78-year old male from Barbour County, a 47-year old male from Logan County, a 97-year old female from Monroe County, an 82-year old male from Wood County, a 97-year old female from Wood County, a 77-year old male from Logan County, a 58-year old female from Cabell County, and a 79-year old male from Wayne County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 6, 2021, there have been 2,499,807 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 144,010 total cases and 2,707 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,854 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 134,494 people have recovered and 2,707 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.42%.

A total of 355,892 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
