B-UMS cross-country teams run at Forest Festival Invitational

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Bucs and Little Lady Bucs ran at the Forest Festival Invitational this past Saturday in Elkins.

The Little Lady Bucs took runner-up honors out of seven full teams while the Bucs placed sixth out of 11 teams.

The Little Lady Bucs finished with 76 points while South Middle won with just 27 points. Elkins was third with 80, Central Preston was fourth with 105 and Bridgeport rounded out the top five with 110.

Lena Rose Walker was the top Little Lady Buc runner placing 10th with a time of 15:22.75.

The other Little Lady Bucs scoring were Madison Knabenshue in 11th (15:29.48), Isabella Bowers in 20th (16:17.13), Chloe Lewis in 21st (16:18.66) and Gwendolyn Rogosky in 22nd (16:19.99).

Leyland Phillips of South Middle won the event with a time of 14:02.13 while Molly McFadden of Elkins was second with a time of 14:24.34.

For the Little Bucs, they amassed 184 points.

Taylor County won the team title with 43 points while South Middle was second with 52 points.

Scoring for the Little Bucs were Briston Hyre in 18th (14:01.52), Kenton Stump in 45th (15:16.67), Lucas Fortney in 52nd (15:39.65), Kylan Hedrick (63rd), 15:59.91 and Mitchell Whitley in 66th (16:11.50).

Parker Muncy of Bridgeport won the race with a time of 12:31.30 while Joshua Shrewsberry of South Middle was second with a clocking of 12:35.15.

Both teams will run again on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Apple Valley in Fairmont.
