Average number of new COVID-19 cases in West Virginia continues to fall

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 873 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

The average number of new cases reported in the state continues to fall and has now reached levels last seen in mid-November.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (12), Barbour (2), Lewis (7), Randolph (14) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 194 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Nine additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR:

  • a 68-year old female from Monongalia County,
  • a 92-year old male from Wayne County,
  • a 66-year old male from Boone County,
  • a 78-year old male from Wirt County,
  • a 67-year old male from Grant County,
  • an 87-year old female from Cabell County,
  • a 67-year old female from Mercer County,
  • an 87-year old female from Lincoln County,
  • a 69-year old male from Pleasants County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of January 30, 2021, there have been 1,913,068 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 120,340 total cases and 2,015 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 21,807 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 96,518 people have recovered and 2,015 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.54%.

A total of 66,177 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
