Auvil, Bucs blank East Fairmont, 4-0

FAIRMONT – Four different players got into the scoring act and keeper Dalton Auvil had a clean sheet as the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs returned to the win column with a 4-0 road victory over the East Fairmont Bees Tuesday night in a Big 10 Conference outing.

The Bucs grabbed an early lead just four minutes in when Zach Calef-Boring played a through ball to the penalty area from Camdin Carpenter and he scored with a shot to the back post.

Noah Radabaugh made it a 2-0 contest when he played a cross from the right side of the penalty area and beat East Fairmont keeper Mylakie Stasick with a shot to the back post in the 28th minute.

The Bucs held their 2-0 lead at the break.

Branson Carpenter added to the B-U advantage in the 62nd minute with a goal after playing a diagonal ball from Caden Andrick to the near post.

The Bucs wrapped up the scoring in the 67th minute when Julien Larcher sent home a penalty kick past Satsick.

“Two big things we emphasized in practice Monday was quick passing and movement, and shooting on frame,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “We saw big improvements on both those fronts tonight. We challenged the team early on to attack the goal and look for quick opportunities in transition as we’ve really been lacking in scoring the past few games. The team really stepped up to that challenge.”

“Of course anytime you shut out an opponent you have to give a lot of credit to the back line and keeper, Donato added. “We’ve made some positional adjustments the past few days and tonight was the best it had looked. The few shots on goal we gave up were easy for Auvil to manage and that’s exactly what we ask those defenders to do.”

The Bucs held a 10-3 margin in shots-on-goal.

Auvil stopped all three shots he faced in the shutout win. It was the third shutout of the season for the junior keeper.

The win lifted the Bucs to 4-4-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big 10 Conference.

They will return home Thursday to play Robert C. Byrd at 7:30 p.m.
