Archery in the Schools provides inclusive PE program for public, private students in WV

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Archery in the Schools is growing in popularity in schools across West Virginia and provides students, who may not be interested in traditional team sports, with a fun and inclusive physical education program where they can be active and make friends.

The Archery in the Schools program, organized by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, is present in more than 300 schools across the state and is open to public, private and home school students in grades 4 through 12.

The program, which meets state and national standards for physical education, requires schools to have a trained instructor and use approved equipment. While there is a competitive element to the program, all schools and students participate on a level playing field. Schools are currently working on qualifying for the state archery tournament, scheduled for March 28 at Marshall University’s Chris Cline Athletic Complex in Huntington.
