Another new COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County on Thursday, 89 cases added statewide

A new confirmed case of COVID-19 has been found in Upshur County, the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department announced Thursday afternoon. The case is the 33rd confirmed case overall and the second reported this week.

“Upshur County currently has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and two probable [cases],” the health department said in a press release. “Twelve of those are currently active, with one being hospitalized. Many of those are soon coming off quarantine.”

Statewide, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 89 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

One additional death has also been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – 55-year old female from Mason County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 23, 2020, there have been 250,942 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 5,550 total cases and 103 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Grant, Greenbrier, Hancock, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Pendleton, Raleigh, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,534 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 3,913 people have recovered and 103 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.14%.
