Alderson Broaddus University offers prorated credits and refunds to students

PHILIPPI, W.Va.—April 30, 2020—With residence halls closed and classes transitioned online for the remainder of the spring semester, Alderson Broaddus (AB) University offers prorated credits or refunds on room and board for enrolled students.

“We consistently and constantly reviewed guidance from the U. S. Department of Education, West Virginia higher-education agencies, and other officials and consultants to create a fair and equitable plan for credits and refunds to our students,” said Dr. Tim Barry, president of AB.

AB processed nearly $1 million in refunds to students who were in good financial standing with the University. Refund checks were mailed to students on April 30.

“We certainly appreciate our students’ and their families’ patience as we worked through this process while managing COVID-19-related disruptions to our campus operations,” said Dr. Barry.

The University announced March 17 that it would be suspending face-to-face instruction and transitioning to virtual learning. Following an extended spring break, classes resumed for Alderson Broaddus University students on March 23. This extension allowed for a successful transition to distance instruction and other appropriate modalities for the completion of the spring semester.

AB remains operational, but faculty and staff are continuing to work remotely. In keeping with guidance from public health officials and directives from the governor of West Virginia, public access to AB facilities is restricted.

Alderson Broaddus continues to receive COVID-19 updates from a variety of local, state, regional, and national sources daily. AB encourages students, faculty, and staff to closely monitor the website, the mobile alert system, and AB email accounts for updates.
