Active COVID cases in Upshur County reach highest levels since February

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 2,858 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 470 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (62), Barbour (12), Lewis (25), Randolph (18) and Webster (24) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of 15 active cases over the weekend.

Twenty-two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 96-year old female from Wayne County, a 91-year old male from Kanawha County, a 91-year old female from Mason County, a 94-year old female from Roane County, a 91-year old female from Kanawha County, a 95-year old male from Cabell County, a 71-year old male from Kanawha County, an 87-year old male from Wyoming County, a 75-year old male from Hancock County, a 56-year old male from Wood County, an 81-year old female from Roane County, an 85-year old female from Harrison County, an 88-year old male from Kanawha County, an 87-year old female from Cabell County, a 79-year old female from Kanawha County, a 92-year old female from Fayette County, an 83-year old male from Kanawha County, a 44-year old female from Jefferson County, a 78-year old male from Lewis County, an 80-year old male from Wayne County, a 79-year old female from Wyoming County, and a 78-year old female from Upshur County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 11, 2022, there are currently 2,858 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 22 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,091 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 285 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 45 currently in intensive care and 10 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 11.5%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
