Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia tick up again Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 6,727 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 243 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (153), Barbour (69), Lewis (61), Randolph (77) and Webster (53) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of four active cases in the last 24 hours.

No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, likely due to Thursday’s Veterans Day holiday, according to the DHHR.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of November 12, 2021, there are currently 6,727 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been no deaths reported since the last report (most likely attributed to yesterday’s state holiday) with a total of 4,610 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 529 residents are hospitalized with the virus (73% unvaccinated, 27% vaccinated), with 183 currently in intensive care (84% unvaccinated, 16% vaccinated) and 91 on a ventilator (88% unvaccinated, 12% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 7.56%.

A total of 927,270 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 52% of the state.
