KERENS – Racing fans took a drive down memory lane Saturday during the annual Wall of Legends Ceremony at Elkins Raceway. A total of ten inductees received the honor of their name placed on the Wall of Legends as members of the Class of 2022 with many loved ones and fans looking on.

In this case, memory lane consisted of four wheels, a roaring engine and a dirt track. This event was opportunity to shine a spotlight on the hard work and passion of former drivers, mechanics, crew members, promoters, car owners and sponsors of Elkins Raceway over the years.

“Family – that’s what we are. You know, we may not see each other for a long time, but we’ve got the same things in our hearts and the same thing in our minds and that’s what the fraternity of racing is about. It’s about the love for the same thing,” said Pete Secret, Director of the Wall of Legends Committee.

Many of these gentlemen began their love for the track at an early age. Now, after countless hours in the garage or on the track, they find themselves being recognized as an elite group of individuals who have called Elkins Raceway home.

Each inductee received a plaque and framed image from their good ‘ol days at Elkins Raceway, courtesy of Bob Hart Sr. and Randy Murphy. These small tokens of honor showcased years of blood, sweat and tears given for the love of this sport.

“I can’t thank the people that helped me [get here], enough. It’s an honor to be here,” said Bob Hershman, tearfully.
