WVU Mountaineer mascot to attend Purple Power Night

CHARLESTON — Colson Glover, the WVU Mountaineer Mascot, will be attending the 13th Annual Purple Power Night presented by WVU Cancer Institute on Thursday, July 29 at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston. On that evening, the Power will be hosting the Lancaster Barnstormers in a 7:05 pm game.

Glover was named the WVU Mountaineer Mascot in March 2020, and is a native of Lewisburg, WV.  He is pursuing an undergraduate degree in neuroscience with plans of attending the WVU School of Medicine after completing his bachelor’s degree.  He is an undergraduate researcher with the School of Medicine and a tutor for the Biology and Athletics departments.  A member of the Honors College, he has served as a teaching assistant and mentor for incoming honors students each fall.  Glover is a volunteer for WVU Medicine Children’s and trail clean-up at the WVU CORE Arboretum, and is actively involved in the WVU Pre-Med Club.

Glover is proud to represent WVU, the state of West Virginia, and Mountaineers everywhere on a daily basis and to show the nation what it means to be a Mountaineer.  Being a third generation Mountaineer, he is fulfilling a dream of representing the West Virginia and WVU as the Mountaineer Mascot.

Glover is a graduate of Greenbrier East High School, where served as Student Body President, and a member of the National Honor Society and Baseball team.  He enjoys hunting, fishing, and enjoying the wild and wonderful outdoors of West Virginia.  During the game, attendees will be able to meet Colson as well as get autographs.

There will be special activities during Purple Power Night honoring and remembering all those affected by pancreatic cancer.  Tickets for the game are $8 each.  For each ticket purchased in advance, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.  Tickets for this special event may be purchased by contacting Annette Fetty-Santilli at 304-621-3648.  All pancreatic cancer survivors will receive free tickets to the game, by contacting Ms. Fetty-Santilli.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in the United States and is expected to rise to the second leading cause by 2020.  Pancreatic cancer is one of the nation’s deadliest cancers with a five-year survival rate of just 9%.  An estimated 73% of patients will die in the first year of their diagnosis.

During the evening, there will be a video presentation honoring pancreatic cancer survivors and those who have been lost to the disease.  If anyone would like to have a loved one honored, they can contact Ms. Fetty-Santilli.
