About the CDC

The Child Development Center of Central WV, Inc. is recognized throughout the state as one of West Virginia’s premier early care and education facilities.

In 1960, the Center opened as a field laboratory for W.Va. Wesleyan’s Early Childhood Education Department.  The Center’s first home was a converted private residence at the corner of Meade Street and Camden Avenue.
In 1975, the Center moved to its second home, a relocated army barracks joining the Center’s current playground.  Originally located at Point Pleasant, WV, this facility had served as housing for troops moving across country by train.  After World War II, the building was situated in the area that is now directly in front of Wesley Chapel and served as Wesleyan’s student center.

In 1985, when Wesleyan discontinued its Early Childhood Education major, a group of parents and teachers formed a nonprofit corporation to keep the Center open.  After a feasibility study and a lengthy search to find the best location for the new facility, the Center’s Board of Directors chose to build the new center just across the playground.

During the 1990’s, the CDC built a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility designed especially for children and initiated a regional training programs for parents, teachers, and caregivers. Our current program reflects both the forethought of the new facility and decades of leading-edge approach to early childhood education.

Over the years, the Center’s name has slowly evolved.  First, as Wesleyan’s Kindergarten, The Wesleyan Early Learning Center, Wesleyan’s Child Development Center, The Child Development Center at West Virginia Wesleyan, and finally, The Child Development Center of Central of West Virginia, Inc.  In the community, we’re known simply as “The CDC”!

Any questions about the Center or the job? Give the CDC a call at 304-473-8348 or email or email cdc@wvwc.edu.
